8th Annual Bead Soup Reveal

Thank You Lori and Rick and all the ladies that helped pull
off another Amazing Bead soup Blog Party!
So let's get to it....
This is the Amazing soup I received form Tari Kahrs.
I got to cooking with it right away.
Here I used the focal and Gaea Beads Tari sent me.
I added
Glass Pearls, a few Brass and Jade beads, as well as
Swarovski Pearls
and some Unicorn lampwork beads.
Bronze/olive metallic leather cord.
Here I use the toggle, links, and ceramic owl.
Added silk ribbon, ceramic flower beads, antique brass chain,
and some yellow turquoise beads.

So the commitment portion is done.
Focal used...check....Clasp used check check.

But I think that our partners are curious to see what you will do
with the other components of the soup they send...
so I made more...
For this one I used one of the PC Flowers.
Added a Tagua nut, Round Agate beads
and Pearl nuggets.
Wove some faux suede in the
antique brass chain made a dangle and
added a Vintaj round hammered link,
bead bar for the toggle.
and a word charm that says "Believe".
I almost lost it when I wore it.
I'm thinking of doing some wire wrapping on
the round link to make the hole a little smaller.
But I don't want to junk it up.
Any suggestions to help prevent the bar from slipping out?
[ Update June 2014. THe wire wrapping I did still didn't work.
So I changed out the round portion of the
toggle and kept the bar. Problem solved. ]
I used mixed metals on this one, antique copper and antique brass.
Experimented with some basic wire wrapping techniques.
Used one of the cool rectangle links and the the gorgeous
 lampwork beads,Tari sent me.
Added some Unicorn tear drops and
a Tierra cast Hammered heart toggle.

BONUS
This is a Bonus item I made from the Wool Roving
that Tari used as packing material
for the bead soup she sent me.
Normally used  for felting,
which I have not gotten into. (yet)
I made my first handmade felted ball beads.
Which did not require me to get any of the felting tools.
Embellished them and assembled this bracelet.
I hope Tari likes this Bonus bracelet
because I sent it to her as a surprise!

I really liked that I tried
some "new to me" techniques  in this Bead Soup.
I just have a few bits left and will be sure to
make something with those as well.
Thank You again Tari
 for this Awesome bead soup!
I hope I did it justice.

A Month and a Few Days to Go!

So I've bee working feverishly
with the soup that Tari sent me.
Trying all sorts of combinations.
We have a just a month and a
few days left before all revealing takes place.
I hope she is having as much fun with what I sent her
as I am with what she sent me.
This is what I sent Tari.
Here are the photos she took
(which are way better than mine)

My Soup is Here!

First off... Tari, took an ordinary box
and made it a special treasure.
She drew one of  her delightful birds
on the box.
Then there was this amazing teal fiber.
Now I haven't got into felting...but it looks felt-able.
(Is that even a word...felt-able)
In the pink pouch was all this
yummy beady goodness.
A most excellent amazing soup, Tari.
Words can't thank you enough!
I love it!
Now onto the task of designing

New Necklace from 6th Bead Soup

My Partner from the 6th Bead Soup
was Sarah Goode.
(This was in the summer of last year)
And in the bonus soup she sent me
were these  magenta leaves.
They have that rubberized feel to them.
Did I want to make earrings?
A bracelet?
Use one here and two there?
In the end they all were used for this necklace.
As it happened I had a few of the same
color in some coin shell beads.
I also have several shell necklaces that needed
some more pizzazz!
I think this touch of magenta did the trick.
Thanks Sarah
..it's a soup that keeps on giving!

Bead Soup Reveal #3

Thank You Pamela
for a really fun and challenging
 bead soup mix...
with it I was able to create the following...
Now, let's break it down a bit...
I used the focal and toggle I was sent.
Adding beads from my stash.
I like the word beads because it says
"Appreciate"
And I truly appreciate what you sent me.
My Bead Soup commitment is now completed.

You can stop here if you wish and move on with the hop.

Or check out what else I did with Pamela's soup mix...
I made this bracelet with the wood beads.
Rubbed them with golden gilders paste
for a little more metallic sheen.
The clear AB beads were used in this necklace.
Along with pink crackle beads and a focal
I was gifted by my Mom.
We can call this one Pink Bubbly.
[Good for a  "Pink Saturday" post too!]
This stretch bracelet was made after
I created the set below.
I used  the hematite beads and a left over Verdi bead.
Added a few antique brass beads
to help tie it in....
with this necklace and matching earrings.
I was able to use the  painted metal dough nut,
gold tone rose beads, and Verdi ceramic beads
(which was a spot on match to the ones I had in my stash).
Added African brass beads, filigree medallion
 and antique gold tone chain.
I'll call this next one, Serendipity.
I had just taken advantage of a sale
and purchased these the minty lampwork
beads and leaves.
A challenging color for me but the price was right.
Then to my surprise in my bead soup mix...a stretch bracelet
....minty pearl chips.
A perfect match!
Could I have taken apart the stretch
bracelet and gotten more creative?
Yeah.
But it works for me the way it is with
the small addition of the set of leaves.
and a pair of earring to match.
Here are a few last minute items I put together.
So what's left from my soup....not much.
I gobbled it right up!
A few more of these Bi-cone beads
and the Jade flower beads are all that is left.

I'm so glad I started on my soup straight away.
Or it may have been that I had nothing to show you.
Much like others I have visited, the unexpected happens.
For me it was the death of my beloved Iko kitty,
and then a week later the sudden death of my older brother.
My creativity was zapped. Didn't want to do anything.
But my inner voice said, "Let your Yes mean Yes."
And
Thankfully, I am not without hope.
Though my heart is aching....
 I'm moving forward.
I dedicate these creations to them.

(Being in the last reveal was a help too.)

A Special Thanks to Lori Anderson.
Our lovely hostess.
Another great blog hop.
She is amazing and soldiers on despite her illness.

Beads Soup Blog Party is on!

I won't be posting until the third reveal date.
I plan to visit as many as possible.

Here is a link to the list of the those in
the first reveal

the 2nd reveal

UPDATE 4/2/2013
From Lori our hostess
Due to completely unforeseen circumstances (well, maybe not unforeseen, but I am not able to conquer this latest bout of illness very well) I would like to please (OH pretty please) postpone the 2nd and 3rd reveal by a week. That means if you are set to post this weekend, you post on the 13th and if you are in the 3rd reveal, you post on the 20th.
Update from Lori 4/17/2013
Once again -- I'm very sorry.  This blog party is the one thing I think I bring to the beading world, so to postpone it not once, but twice -- well.  I wouldn't unless I had to, and I am so very sorry I have to.
Let's hope Lori feels better real soon!

So it looks like my reveal date will now be on the 20th,
27th
Hope you come back then.
And visit the other ladies to see what
they created with their soups.

Who's Up for a Second Serving....

...of Bead Soup that is.
Pictured below is what I sent Sarah
as a Thank You
for sending out a second soup.
The first one Sarah sent on the 2nd of July.
It didn't arrive until the 30th.
Around the week of 23rd  of July
we started thinking it was lost.
So she sent another and
to be fair, I sent her a second helping.
We moved our reveal dates too.
To the 3rd Reveal this Saturday the 25th of August.
Sarah wrote to let me know that her second soup
arrived and she is very pleased with it.
She also mentioned that she's already
made a few things for the reveal.
Sounds like we both have just a few
more things to do and then we'll be ready.

Sod's Law

Sod's Law
the principle that what can go wrong,
will go wrong,
usually with some observed degree of irony.
Also known as Murphy's Law.

And so it went with the bead soup that
Sarah my bead soup partner
was sending me
from England.
Mine arrived to her in record time.
Something like 8 days. Unheard of really.
After 3 weeks
we were both getting nervous.
Starting to write it off as lost.
I was just going to make something up from
my own stash and call it a day.
But Sarah sent a second bead soup mix.
You can see where I'm going with this...
The very day she sent the second soup mix
was the very day that I notified her that
the1st Bead soup had arrived.
4 weeks after she had mailed it.
Though we were both relieved that it had arrived.
Sarah mention that it was Sod's law.

Lot's to play with here!
I'll see if I'll be able to get
a necklace done in time for the last
bead soup reveal using this second bead soup
using the metal focal and box clasp.

Waiting on the Soup

Well it seems to be taking a while
for the bead soup for me
to arrive from England.
Mine arrive to Sarah in  record time.
The thing is we have no control over
international shipping.
I'm hoping they arrive this week.
This is the assortment I sent Sarah and
She said it reminded her of peacock feathers.
You know...she's right!

Bead Soup Blog Party!

Yeah it's Bead Soup Party Day!
With 21 countries and 362 participant.
It is going to be a party that I will be savoring all week!
And will take me at least that long to visit every one.
So whether it be painting, mix media, card making,...you name it.
Do I have a style?
Now that I've been dabbling in the bead world
for the past couple of years.
More so now because of meeting Lori and
all the wonderfully talented  ladies I have met through the
Bead Soup Blog Party's.
I find myself asking the same question.
Regardless if I do or not,
what seems to stay the same for me is when
the "canvas speaks" to you.
Telling you what it wants and doesn't want.
Isn't it interesting how they speak to us all a little differently.
Which adds to the rich variety we see in the Art world.
This Beads Soup mix was no exception.
I wanted to do something abstract or asymmetrical.
The beads said, "No".
The focal is a delicate gold leaf.
A stand alone type of piece.
The golden toggle, simple.
Both pieces are light in weight.
It was saying keep it light, keep it simple and clean.
Enhance the glimmer of the focal leaf.
Beads I added to Deana's to accomplish this were:
3mm round gold spacer beads, various gold tone spacer caps,
Czech glass metallic light purple wavy leaves,
(I find these type of beads with holes drilled at the top a challenge to use)
6mm amethyst bumpy lamp-work beads,
gold tone chain, a few accent seed beads and
Czech purple flowers.
And out came a Necklace and Earrings to match
with all it's glimmery-ness.
With so much soupy goodness... I made a few more pieces.
Here I used up the pearl heischi beads, faceted metallic beads and
the set of Antique gold metal tear drop beads
from the soup mix to make these bracelets and earrings.
Here I used some memory wire for a bracelet. Went in a south west direction
with the coconut shell beads adding
some turquoise colored seed beads and pewter feather charms.
It's as light as a feather, hardly feels like you have anything on your wrist.
This is as far as I got with this one. It's still in the ole think tank.
I'm looking for a metal gold tone dragon fly I saw with a slight curve to it's body.
I'd like to add it to the front of the pendant.
I just can't remember where I saw it.
And I still have lots of left overs to use in the future!
Thank You Deana.
You've truly been a delightful swap partner.
Click here to see what I sent Deana
Thank You So Much  Lori
